Pioneer is founded by David Strachan in Whangarei as a general engineering business, specialising in repairing farm equipment and supporting other local industries.
David’s son Graham enters the business, bringing a different set of expertise including automated machining. Using his skills as a qualified fitter and turner, he launched the company into a manufacturing organisation and provided specialist engineering services to a wider community of customers.
Under Graham’s leadership Pioneer Engineering & Welding became a full-fledged operations dealing in farm machinery and forklift attachment whilst continuing to maintain its roots as a general engineering business.
Graham’s two sons Arne and Peter join Pioneer Engineering and become the next generation to take on the business. They take Pioneer Engineering to another level by introducing abrasive blasting and painting. Word quickly spread we gained a reputation for high-quality workmanship and excellence across the board. Arne & Peter started exploring opportunities around specialised waste reduction machinery from Ireland and Germany and sold their first MacFab baler designed to compact cardboard and plastic waste.
With changing times, the team attentively listened to specific customers' requirements on specific size bales, and this led them to form a partnership with HSM Germany.
The company consolidates its position and Pioneer Group was formed as a specialist manufacturer and supplier of innovative waste and recycling equipment.
The company resonates with customers, and this led to exponential growth. A new state-of-the-art office was established along with further expansion into manufacturing.
Pioneer Group continue to invest in upgrading its machinery and improving its manufacturing footprint whilst following industry-leading health and safety best practices.
A decade later, Pioneer cements its market leadership position in the waste and recycling industry. Nationally renowned for helping customers solve complex waste challenges with expert knowledge and industry-leading products. The company decided to modernise the brand and launch a new look and feel. The new Pioneer identity better reflect our market position, core values and mission.
